OUR STORY

FMS Training has been equipping individuals and businesses with essential skills and knowledge since its inception in 1992. Originally founded by Ross Doherty as part of his Forklift and Mechanical Services business, training was initially a small side venture alongside the company’s mechanical and hire operations. Ross’s passion for teaching and his commitment to safety laid the foundation for what FMS Training is today.

Our History

In 2007, Ross’s daughter, Jocelyn Doherty, took over the training division at just 24 years old. With a degree in education, and a natural passion for teaching, Jocelyn brought a fresh perspective to the business. She expanded its focus, introduced new training programs, and even explored online training under a separate brand.

By 2015, Jocelyn successfully transitioned her online training business but left FMS Training in her father’s capable hands. Ross continued to manage the business during his retirement, dedicating himself to the teaching side that he loved so much. However, after his passing in 2021 following a courageous battle with brain cancer, Jocelyn returned to FMS Training with a renewed sense of purpose and a deep commitment to growing her father’s legacy.

Our Mission

At FMS Training, we believe safety training doesn’t have to be boring—it can be engaging, practical, and even fun! We’re committed to creating an environment where learning is not only effective but also enjoyable. Whether it’s hands-on forklift training or high-risk equipment courses, our goal is to instill confidence, skills, and a love of learning in every student who walks through our doors.

Empowering Women in Male-Dominated Industries

One of our proudest achievements is actively championing women in industries like construction, mining, and logistics. Jocelyn knows firsthand the challenges of being a female director in these male-dominated sectors but is passionate about opening doors for others.

Many of our female students come to us not because they plan to operate forklifts full-time but because they see the value of gaining these skills for their current roles or personal goals. Jocelyn recounts inspiring stories, like a 75-year-old woman who obtained her forklift license and secured a job within days, proving that it’s never too late to learn something new.

We believe that breaking barriers is about more than just skills; it’s about empowerment. For many, the process of earning a license or certification becomes a transformative journey, instilling newfound confidence and a sense of accomplishment.
